It’s a pity to close, but it’s been a lot of fun. All the best with your robot building. :)

Comment on Closing Down Dawn Robotics by Matt Hawkins http://blog.dawnrobotics.co.uk/2015/11/closing-dawn-robotics/#comment-1036 Mon, 09 Nov 2015 11:12:24 +0000 http://blog.dawnrobotics.co.uk/?p=797#comment-1036 It’s sad to hear this news. Well done on repaying the grant even though I’m sure you could have not bothered. Some customers may not realise just how much business integrity Dawn Robotics has.

I think this is like the bit at the end of Terminator 2 when the T800 gets spiked by the T1000 and his red eye fades … then a flicker … then a bit of power re-routing and he is back in action again*. I’m sure Dawn Robotics will rise again and be back in time for the robot apocalypse.

* ok, I’ve ignored the fact that 5 minutes later the T800 is completely destroyed in a vat of molten metal.

I am sorry that you have to make this decision to close up shop. Your efforts will live on… I see many examples of Robot Kits that have been influenced by your code and support. 1st was Chris Robinson of Rocket Brand Studios, over here in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA and his decision to close down and now across the “”pond” you and Dawn Robotics…where will I get my ideas and supplies…Good Luck
I’ll check out the store front…

Comment on Using the Dagu Mini Driver to Build a Raspberry Pi Camera Robot by Alan http://blog.dawnrobotics.co.uk/2014/01/using-dagu-mini-driver-build-raspberry-pi-camera-robot/#comment-1010 Mon, 28 Sep 2015 12:47:34 +0000 http://blog.dawnrobotics.co.uk/?p=440#comment-1010 Hi there,

If you also had an Arduino to use with the shield then yes this should be possible. The code that we supply would need to be modified, which depending on your experience may take a while, but it would definitely be a learning experience. :)

Comment on Using the Dagu Pan/Tilt Kit with the Raspberry Pi by Roddy http://blog.dawnrobotics.co.uk/2013/10/using-the-dagu-pantilt-kit-with-the-raspberry-pi/#comment-1005 Sat, 26 Sep 2015 20:48:45 +0000 http://blog.dawnrobotics.co.uk/?p=238#comment-1005 I have a Pi2 Model B and I’m going round in circles trying to get this to work (I have previously had it working on a model B Pi, which has sadly expired).
The error message I’m getting is :

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "pi_pan_tilt_control.py", line 4, in
import RPIO
File "/usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/RPIO/__init__.py", line 115, in
import RPIO._GPIO as _GPIO
SystemError: This module can only be run on a Raspberry Pi!

I’ve tried advice which uses apt-get to purge “python{,3}-rpi.gpio” and then to install it again, but to no avail. Can anyone advise if the script works on a Pi2 and if not how might I use the pan and tilt module on my Pi2

(base install is 2015-05-05-raspbian-wheezy)

Thanks
Roddy

Thanks for your question. This robot, and the software we’ve created for it works fully with the Raspberry Pi 2. The initial photos show the old Model B Pi, but you should also see that there are photos showing the B+, and this configuration will also work with the Pi 2. Any problems getting up and running, please let me know.

I am interested to make this robot
I am going to use Raspberry PI 2. Is it compatible with the modules and works perfectly with your tutorial?
Because it seems you are using Raspberry B

Thank you
