Troubles with lions[edit]

I'm thinking about decent alternatives. The first is a slight edit of Sodacan's lion, and the second looks a lot more like the lion that turned out to be copyright protected one. The last, being based on the official design of the city, is not under copyright. I've tested it in the Belgian state arms. Adelbrecht (talk) 10:24, 15 September 2012 (UTC)

Yes, another lion is needed. I uploaded the bruges lion, with a new head, tail and paws. What do you think about it? - Ssolbergj (talk) 14:42, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
Personally, I'm quite fond of the head and paws of the Bruges lion. I like the more "deformed" look of it, and it works the best in certain heraldry. Your adaptation has its merits too. Perhaps we should use different lions depending on the coat of arms? The Bruges lion fits quite good with my designs for the Belgian provinces, and I will probably use your adaptation in my Napoleonic arms. What will be used for the Belgian royal and state arms, I think we'd best leave that to Katepanomegas so there's a unity of style. I'll phase out my adaptation of the Sodacannic lion, and replace it with either of the two Bruges lions where I see fit, but first I'll work on replacing the existing copyright infringements.
Oh, could you perhaps adapt your new amalgamated head to the supporters? I'm not that fond of the top part of the head of the Sodacannic lion, in here for example. Adelbrecht (talk) 16:12, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
What I don't like about the Bruges lion is the lower part of its mane, which clearly was drawn to suite the huge cross which hangs around the original lion's neck. There is also a lack of detail on top of its head due to the original crown. The shading on its claws is also a bit crude. - Ssolbergj (talk) 16:33, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
You're right. I didn't really notice in my haste to replace the lion. It's not that noticeable unless really looked at closely. I'll see if I can reshade it, add an ear and a curl to the head without butchering it. I'll replace the files in which I've used it already later on, though. First priority is saving my files from deletion. :p Adelbrecht (talk) 16:51, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
Sorry to barge in here, but I'd go for the lion based on Sodacan's with a different head. In my opionion it simpler and more universally applicable thann the Bruges lion. But they're your files. :-) Sir Iain (talk) 21:54, 15 September 2012 (UTC)

I've added yet another sodacan tail and head to the bruges lion. These look better than the previous ones IMO. - Ssolbergj (talk) 00:00, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Oh, I really like this one. Adelbrecht (talk) 10:41, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

I really like your Euler chart of European Military Integration. It is very helpful to envision the various national participation. I do believe you should check out the NATO membership, though. While Malta had a MAP program at one time, they never joined. Cyprus had also been vetoed by Turkey and therefore has not aceded to NATO. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for the diagram, though. Julien Houle (talk) 22:21, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks! I fixed the NATO membership like you said. - Ssolbergj (talk) 01:41, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

Hello Ssolbergj,

I was wondering if you checked the various memberships shown on your European Defence Integration euler diagram. Some of them have missing members, for example, the NATO group should include Albania and Croatia which are the newest members and have been admitted as of 1 April 2009. There should be 28 members in all. This is meant to be constructive criticism and hope it is taken that way as I really admire your work.

eagle and black raven in sweden coat of arms[edit]

Hello, I hope you are well I read with interest a 1944 book entitled Dynastien Bernadottes vapen och det svenska riksvapnet Arvid Berghman.

It tells us that the Napoleonic eagle crest disappears in 1826 (not 1844) to make way for a black raven sitting on a lightning (like an eagle) until 1885 the raven becomes an eagle but with the black beak and legs and golden eagle returns in 1908 while gold.

Nordic Battle Group lion[edit]

I'd like to suggest a couple corrections to File:Coat of Arms of the Nordic Battlegroup.svg. According to Henrik Klackenberg (Statsheraldiker) and Vladimir Sagerlund (Heraldic Artist), the coat of arms officially retains its genitalia, while the sleeve patches used by the military differ in that way from the registered coat of arms. (Here is Riksarkivets version.) Sagerlunds comments to Göteborgs Posten can be found here. I believe also from the blazon that the tongue should be silver and the teeth should be red (the lion is armed gules but not langued gules). [Nevermind that, looking at their own images here and here, they seem to consider a red tongue and silver teeth to be consistent with this blazon, but it should have genitals.] Thank you, once again, for your help! Please see this edit, I think very generic maps like this should be in Public domain, some users have already tagged theirs maps with {{PD-self}}. Could you refuse your copyright to PD-self? Various German Imperial Arms[edit]

Hi, remember the discussion back in October 2011 [1] when I pointed out factual heraldical errors in your versions of the Imperial German arms? You actually wanted to correct them but it's been 2 years now nothing has happened. Meanwhile your pictures are present in several wikipedias presenting false information to readers and infact some have taken over a few of the errors in their derirative work. So again I would like to kindly ask you to correct these issues soon, otherwise a deletion request must be filed to prevent further spread of errornous information. Hi, you tagged this file as PD-self. Actually, I dare to doubt that you are the author of this design. This is government insignia and needs proper licence tagging. Thank you if you could update the file. Unfortunately, myself I have no time to research the EU licensing conditions but sincerely doubt this is a free image. Most likely move back from Commons to Wikipedia. Regards, kashmiri 18:27, 1 March 2014 (UTC) 18:26, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

Request[edit]

Having seen your work on global maps, i want to ask you if it would be possible for you to do an orthographic projection for these islands File:Mauritius (+claim islands).svg (excluding Réunion island) with Mauritius island centered. In fact i already done these one File:Mauritius (orthographic projection).svg, File:Mauritius (orthographic projection with inset).svg previously, but i couldn't include islands which are claim by Mauritius, as i made these map using File:MDG orthographic.svg (which is centered on Madagascar), we need one which is more centered toward the east to be able to represent all islands correctly. I would suggest to highlight islands which are part of Mauritius in Green (i.e Mauritius, Rodrigues, Saint Brandon, Agalega) and islands which are claim by Mauritius in any other color (i.e Tromelin, Chagos Archipelago) and upload the file as an updated version of this one. The reason for creating this orthographic projection is to use it in wikipedia infobox and relevant articles, together with this map so that readers will not only have a detailed map of these islands but will also be able to locate them on the global map more easily. I could have done it myself but i don't how to centered these islands on the orthographic projection, i tried to search for a suitable one where the western Indian Ocean is centered from these Category:SVG locator maps of countries (globe location map scheme), Category:SVG locator maps of countries (green and grey globe scheme) which i could have modify, but unfortunately i didn't find the right one. As the western Indian Ocean will be centered on the map which i requested, it will also be useful for other purposes. Thanks.Kingroyos (talk) 19:03, 20 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi, since you created File:Tribunal Internacional de Justicia - International Court of Justice.svg, you may be interested that I uploaded a new file, File:Seal of the 'Permanent Court of International Justice' in The Hague.jpg, which is a photograph, made in 1923, of the original seal of the International Court of Justice. Hi. Thanks! That's brilliant. I'll trace the details for the SVG version. - Ssolbergj (talk) 12:05, 7 January 2016 (UTC)
I like what you did with the colors of the image. Have tried to trace the bitmap myself, with Inkscape and with Vector Magic, but I was not satisfied with the quality of the end result. I think probably the vector version of this image needs to be reconstructed from the base. --OSeveno (talk) 17:01, 8 January 2016 (UTC)

Duplicates[edit]

Please note that speedy deletion as a duplicate image is only valid for exact or scaled down versions of an image. This requires also that the file format is the same. SVG versus JPG files are not duplicates. In such cases please start a regular deletion discussion. De728631 (talk) 17:06, 10 January 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Norway-Coat of arms.svg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the OTRS system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

POTY barnstar.svg

You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2016 Picture of the Year contest.

Dear Ssolbergj,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2016 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eleventh edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2016) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category.

In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 20 April 2017, 23:59:59 UTC.

Proposed coat of arms for Svalbard[edit]

Glasskunst med norske fylkesvåpen (18306286640).jpg

I wonder if you are up for a challenge. This image is from a building belonging to Statens kartverk in Ringerike. It shows the coat of arms of all the 19 Norwegian counties, and one more (bottom left). I contacted Statens kartverk and they confirmed that when this building was built in 1980, for the then Norges geografiske oppmåling, this coat of arms was on the table as a proposal for Svalbard. I think it would be interesting to add this information to Wikipedia and then it would be useful to have an svg version. Can you create it? Nidator (talk) 11:20, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

Coat of arms of the Olav Thon Foundation[edit]

I'll write to you in English so that more people can understand, even though we both speak Norwegian
I came across the coat of arms of the Thon Foundation. The file description page claims that this can not be copyrighted as an "official Norwegian coat of arms". I can not understand that this is correct. As I understand this is not an official coat of arms, but just an ordinary logo made to look like a coat of arms. Therefore I can not see that this is andy different from other logos that are copyrighted. Bw 3s (talk) 08:28, 23 February 2018 (UTC)

File:Location European Union.svg[edit]

Hello.

Can you add South Sudan in File:Location European Union.svg and in other similar diplomatic relations SVG maps where it is missing?

Can you also add South Sudan in File:Anglican C., Porvoo C., Utrecht Union.svg, File:Map of Pirate Parties International Members.svg, File:Space Launch Capability.svg, File:Lusophone World.svg, File:Map of African Development Bank Members.svg, File:Map of Pirate Parties.svg, File:Map of Pirate Parties International Members.svg, File:Map of Pirate Parties International.svg and File:Blu-ray regions without key.svg?

I am adding South Sudan (as well as Montenegro and other possible missing updates) in the PNG maps in Category:Maps needing South Sudan political boundaries and then remove this category after updating them. There were close to 1100 maps since I started to update these files on 1 March 2018, now it is reduced to less than 640 maps, but there is a long way to go.

Unfortunately I don't know how to edit SVG maps myself, that is why I asked you.

Kindest regards.

Use of artwork[edit]

Hello Ssolbergj,

I have used your "SPQR" flag (Flag of the Roman Empire.svg) in an art project of mine. Is it ok with you if I publish this work (non-commercial use)? Of course, I will mention you in the description.

Thank you for a reply & greetings!

请教您所贡献的疆域类的文件是使用何种软件制作的?[edit]

Asia (orthographic projection).svg

I come from PRC, do not understand English, in order to try to communicate with you as much as possible, I put the above Chinese through Google translation, see below. Because it is a machine translation, so try to ensure that the meaning is correct, may not be enough courtesy, Thank you for your forgiveness.

Hello, see you contribute a lot of "territory" vector images, such as the right one, and so on.

What software do you use? Can you teach me to make it?

thank you very much!
