Mounting the pan / tilt assembly

Postby JTeagle » Sun Mar 23, 2014 2:32 pm

You appear to have supplied M3 pillars and screws for mounting the pan / tilt assembly, which would appear to match your picture... but the holes in the side of the servos are less than M3. Is there a mistake somewhere?

Hi there,

No mistake, although it is less than clear, and could be better.

The holes on the Pan servo need to be widened slightly to fit the M3 screws. This can be done with a small screwdriver as the plastic is quite soft.

Sorry that this isn't made clear in the manual. I'll try to update it to clarify things this week. Also, we are currently looking to source some M2 standoffs to make mounting the pan/tilt head easier.

Please let me know how you get on.

Regards

That's the problem - the plastic isn't that soft. I eventually found the assembly instructions on the blog online (how come these instructions aren't included with the kit?) and tried it, but it wasn't very successful. Luckily I have a drill but this was supposed to be kit that allows us to 'get on with business of software'... we shouldn't have to be doing anything more than screwing things together and plugging things in. That and the lack of spanner to tighten nuts, and everything being fiddly and small and in hard-to-reach places for big fingers... it was a very frustrating day yesterday.

Sorry once again, it isn't as I'd like it, it's just that with so many different things to do, updating the manual slipped down the list.

The manual will be updated this week. In the meantime, if you have further problems with the Pan servo let me know and I can send you a servo with the standoffs already attached.

Hi there,

I've finally produced an updated version of the manual which you can download here. Also, I've found some M2 spacers which I think might be suitable to improve the kit, so I'll be evaluating them next week.

If you've got any other problems assembling, or programming your rover 5 robot, please let me know.
