Using the Google Home as an alarm, it is fast and convenient. However, one of the features that have been missing is the ability to set up alarms to play music instead of the default sound. Which in my opinion it is not that pleasant waking up to it. Thankfully, Google announced yesterday in a blog post that this feature was now available for the Google Home.
How to set it up
Setting up a new alarm to play music it is as simple as it sounds. For example, you could just say, “Hey Google, set up an alarm for 7:00 AM to play New Divide by Linkin Park” or “OK Google, set up an alarm that plays Lose Yourself at 6:00 AM”. Google Assistant will play the requested song or playlist from the default music service that you have set up whether it is Google Play Music, Spotify or Pandora.
Something to have in mind is that you cannot preset default music for future alarms. You will always have to ask the Google Assistant to play music when setting up a new one. Otherwise, it would just play the default alarm sound. Another thing is that this feature is currently only available for the Google Home and Google Assistant enabled speakers and not the Google Assistant on a mobile device.
