How to use Broadcast in the Google Home

-

Back in November, Google rolled out Broadcast to the Google Home lineup which allows broadcasting messages through multiple Google Homes, similar to an intercom system.

How to use it

There are a few things to have in mind before using the Broadcast feature:

  • At least one member of the house needs to be signed in to all the Google Homes. After that, any other member of the house or a guest will be able to broadcast a message
  • Have all speakers connected to the same WiFi connection
  • Make sure that Do Not Disturb is turned off

To activate the feature, you can do it in multiple ways. After OK Google” you can either say, Broadcast, Announce, Tell everyone or Shout. After that, you can speak the message that you would like to broadcast through the speakers. You can also use the broadcast feature from the Assistant app on a mobile device and, you do not have to be on the same WiFi connection. So let’s say you are getting out of work and you want everyone at home to know that you are on the way. Just pull out your phone, say “OK Google” tell everyone, I am coming home! And, the message will broadcast through all the Assistant-enabled speakers in the house.

Apart from being able to relay your message, Google has also added multiple preset sounds that you can use, for example:

“OK Google” broadcast, wake up everyone
“OK Google” broadcast, it’s movie time!

There is a whole list of preset sounds that you can use. You can check them out here.

Currently, this feature is available for devices set to English in the U.S., Canada, Australia and the U.K. with more languages coming soon.
