We are working on software for CNC machines and such encoders could be very useful.
may I ask how many axis it will support ?
and is there possibility of simultaneously movement at least 4-axis , better if 5-axis ?
and what kind of surface toolpaths generator will support nurbs or mesh ?
for CNC yes it really useful , but for printer with one Z-axis , it is more than not necessary .
use micro-stepping and small lead in screw
I getting better idea today , just drill round holes and hold UV sensor in cone shape .
it will keep sensor in same level in horizontal .
and I suggest do not use tray for check mask , take out it ,
put stencil more upper as possible for get more bigger working area , it can allow to use more quantity of checking points

You can try mask generation feature on the beta version on projector calibration page.
It is not perfect right now, one the edges we need some smoothing/blurring and etc.

I have couple Ideas for precise positioning UV sensor .
first
is to use small linear actuator X and Y which hold UV sensor and have position holes same tray for resin ,
when we choose frame in grid the sensor rapidly move in that place by actuators.
second
is make stencil from any plastic or metal by laser cutting aganse with position holes same tray for resin ,
and hold UV sensor in tapered shape , which will center sensor in stencil exactly in mid of each one
