1.0 mm connectors are 50 ohm precision connectors that operate mode free up to 110 GHz. They have an outer conductor that measures 1.0 mm and an air dielectric with the contact supported by a short dielectric bead. During connections, the robust wall of the connector body is designed to engage before the center conductor, assuring a rugged, repeatable mating interface.

There are two grades of 1 mm connectors, as per the IEEE standard: 

• Laboratory Precision Connector (LPC) for applications where lab-grade precision is required (such as calibration standards)
• General Precision Connector (GPC) for general purpose connector and cable assembly applications.

The main difference between the two grades is precision of the connector interface - clearance, flatness and pin depth are more tightly controlled on the LPC grade.
