We have started developing separate support generation software targeting SLA printers.
Planned major features:
Manual support placement
Automatic support generation
Plate arrangement
Automatic plate arrangement
Hollowing parts
Auto rotation
Putting hole
Slicing
Casting tree arrangement
nanodlp integration
It will run on osx, linux and windows, If it could acquire enough customer we have plan for online version too.
Our early versions will target customers using SLA printers for casting as most of the available program's support structure are not very casting friendly.
I will keep post updated on our progress.
Already we have basic program running on all target platform. Working on slicing. We will release alpha version as soon as it become usable for basic tasks.
We welcome any feedback about features and etc.

Wow! I am really looking forward to this! As always, i will test and report.
Cheers^^

This would be great, I will definitely test and report for this. Right now I'm using B9 support generation with a mUVe3D DLP, and it is perhaps too time consuming.
Hope you're making progress!

Thank you for your support.
Just a quick update on our progress.
We have completed our slicer, we are doing internal testing. I believe after slicer we could move much faster.
Features are not finalized yet but import function supports couple of standard 3d formats including STL. Also it could export STL, SLC and our own custom format for nanodlp.

Is your slicer comparable in speed and robustness to STOMP? I have found that STOMP is excellent even if models have complex overlaps without being booled.
Offline
I agree with you, STOMP is working perfectly. Very high performance with slicer quality close to jewelcad envision profile.
But there is a tradeoff between speed and required RAM, STOMP targeted speed, something like jewelcad targeted memory usage. You can do slicing on very heavy models with jewelcad albeit with lower speed.
We are targeting better speed, both our program and STOMP are using qt c++ but we use qt c++ only for gui, remaining is in pure c so it has potential to surpass its performance. RAM usage is not issue for desktop computers.
But if we hope to at-least integrate slicer part into nanodlp itself, it is something which we need to consider too.
Robustness require time, STL outputs from 3d programs far from perfect. But I have high hopes as guy who do programming on this project, highly skilled in 3d programming and writing game engines.

thumbs up!

Any new on this? Any updates?

I guess we will complete support definition and manual placement during this week. The slicer badly delayed the project.

Is the support generator included in the newer builds? I've added a few STL's, but it looks like they're just being sliced, not supported.

I do not have plan to add support generation to nanodlp. It will be resource intensive process which require much better performing hardware than current rpi.

Ah, so it's stand alone software

I really would love to see that support structure generation that seen in Formlabs Preform (v2).
That would be so great, especially if you would have an online tool where this could be done.
Keep up the good work!

Hi! What's the progress with support generation? We can't wait to test it!
Offline
We are working on it. I think after couple of more features and polishing it will be ready to use.
Offline
I will happy to try it at WIP version , let me know please when it possible
Second. I'd love to try it.

I would love to see something like Preform did

OBS
- The crosshatching between struts
- Automatically generate thicker support pillars for taller prints
and so on ...

Any chance of a public beta? Or a private beta? Or a one off alpha?
I'm really jonesing for a better support generator than what's available. I'd engage in morally questionable behavior in exchange for an alternative, even just to play with.

no reaction in over a month probably means nothing happening in this topic anymore?
