Electromagnetic interference in relation to Arduino quadcopters, multicopters and drones.

Electromagnetic interference in relation to multicopters

As you can read in the project section of my page I'm building my own octocopter drone / RPAS. It's getting pretty interesting and I have the ability to carry a camera for aerial photography and filming.

To make sure that the octocopter performs flawlessly I spend a lot of time doing research. In this case it's about electromagnetic interference or EMI for short. My main goal was to answer the question:

"Is electromagnetic interference made-up or is it something real that can cause serious problems?"

And after some experiments and a lot of studying it became clear that this question cannot be answered with a simple yes or no.

To answer the question you need to understand what electromagnetic interference is. Only then you are able to take precautionary measures to minimize the negative effects of electromagnetic interference.

That is why I made a video series about electromagnetic interference in relation to multicopters. During these videos I explain the following topics:

  • Electromagnetic interference
  • Electromagnetic fields
  • Electromagnetic induction
  • Electromotive force
  • The Faraday's - Lenz's law
  • Interference of analog and digital signals
  • Voltage regulators and their power supply rejection ratio (PSRR)
  • And much more.

I try to explain these topics as simple as possible so everybody can understand the basic principles of electromagnetic interference.
