The Beta kit sub-assemblies require additional assembly to complete the frame and start using the machine. Use the visuals in each step below as a guide for orientation and order of assembly.
Step1
(4x) M4x16 bolts with washers, (1x) M4x16 bolt, (1x) Rubber foot, (1x) Base assembly, (1x) x-axis assembly Lay the base of the machine in the orientation shown below, and add 2 bolts with washers into the side, 2 bolts with washers into the bottom, and 1 bolt with the rubber foot into the bottom. The far side of the axis should be supported. [6kg*cm of torque suggested on bolts with washers, rubber foot just needs to be tight]
Step2
(3x) M4x16 bolts with washers Add 2 bolts into the side of the machine and 1 bolt into the bottom front. [6kg*cm of torque suggested]
Step3
(4x) M4x16 bolts with washers, (1x) M4x16 bolt, (1x) Rubber foot, (1x) z-axis assembly Add 2 bolts with washers into the side, 2 bolts with washers into the bottom, and 1 bolt with the rubber foot into the bottom. The far side of the axis should be supported. [6kg*cm of torque suggested on bolts with washers, rubber foot just needs to be tight]
Step4
(4x) M4x16 bolts with washers Add 2 bolts into the side of the machine and 2 bolts into the back. [6kg*cm of torque suggested]
Step5
(4x) M4x16 bolts with washers, (1x) M4x16 bolt, (1x) Rubber foot, (1x) y-axis assembly Add 2 bolts with washers into the side, 2 bolts with washers into the bottom, and 1 bolt with the rubber foot into the bottom. The far side of the axis should be supported. [6kg*cm of torque suggested on bolts with washers, rubber foot just needs to be tight]
Step6
(3x) M4x16 bolts with washers Add 2 bolts into the side of the machine and 1 bolt into the bottom front. [6kg*cm of torque suggested]
Step7
(6x) M4x16 bolts with washers, (1x) Top assembly Add 2 bolts with washers into the slots on either side on each vertical axis. [6kg*cm of torque suggested]
Step8
(6x) M4x20 countersunk bolts, (3x) Arm assembly On the inside of the machine, locate the screw holes at the top of each carriage and fasten 1 bolt from either side. The springs on the arm assembly are not shown below, but you will have to pull the arms apart in order to fit them onto the carriage. [6kg*cm of torque suggested]
Step9
(6x) M4x20 countersunk bolts, (1x) End effector assembly Align the end effector so that the fan ducts are toward the rear of the machine and use 1 bolt on either side of the arms to constrain it to the carriage. The arms should now feel fully constrained. [6kg*cm of torque suggested]
Step10
Bring the end effector all the way down to the build platform and make sure there is enough slack in the wire harness so that it does not impede any motion while in operation. Then route the extruder harness along the back left side of the z-axis and ziptie it in place using the vertical slits in the wall. Pin the harness up top with a ziptie in identical vertical slots in the top, and push the end effector all the way up to the top, where it will sit in the home position. The ideal shape of the wire harness above the end effector is a helix; if that does not happen naturally, you can manually adjust it so that it will from now on.
Step11
Next, we want to flip the machine over and connect the extruder wires to the RAMPS board. The ends of the wires should have a label of where to plug them in.
- Heater wires > D 10
- Extrudate Fans > D 09
- Thermocouple > AUX3
- Extruder Heatsink Fan > 12V Power Supply
- Extruder Motor > E0
Step12
Add windows and door. Plug machine in and turn it on. You are ready to make your first print.
To make sure the print is the correct size you can follow the calibration routine here.
