Post Got mechanical aspect finished, and a question

As you can see the mechanical part of the basic assembly is now finished. I am only waiting on some servo extension cables and connectors for the the stepper motors (arrives tomorrow) to connect everything up and start configuring the software!

Since I hadn't seen this suggestion, I am showing my temporary counterweights, coins in a zip lock bag. I put a hole in the bag below the zip lock. Loop the bead chain through the hole, and then secure the chain to the bag with a rubber band. Works great and is easy to adjust the weights. (A penny weighs about 4 grams)...

Now to my question:

The gondola finds it balance at about the location shown. Is this about correct? Also, in the one video I saw of the gondola position and setup, there was a little 'bounce' as the gondola found that position. In my case, it just moves there with no 'bounce'. Is that OK?

That looks good. Generally, I try to have it balance so it's around the center of the particular drawing I'm planning. As long as the motors can hold the gondola's position at the top range of your drawing (including "home") and also at the bottom extremes without skipping steps, you're fine. You might have to shorten you cord a little, because it looks like the weights will hit the ground if the gondola is at a top corner.

Before you do any real drawings, put a pen in the gondola (for the added weight and friction on the board) and drive it around with the controller. Take it to the extreme corners of your planned drawing area. If the motors hold, no sudden drops, you're good to go.
