Hey Alejandro, I've never tried CMYK - too tricky for me 🙂

Sorry, it's very unlikely that standalone drawing will ever come to arduino Uno as part of the polargraph project. It's not impossible though - Matt Venn has a energy monitor drawbot that is based on an ATMEGA328 and has a built-in SD card slot (http://www.flickr.com/photos/matthewvenn/8539297936/), and he found enough room for the software to make it work.

I would love to adapt his design to base PolargraphSD 2.0 on (dynamically controlled motor current!), but that won't be for a long time, if it ever happens. At any rate, I'm sticking with an ATMEGA2560 based system for the forseeable future, so the UNO based code won't be changing much - unless someone else takes it over.

I think it's a limitation of the rom size vs what you need for all the requisite libraries.

That said, I got a arduino mega clone off ebay for $17 US, add about $3 - 4 for the SD reader. All from China, so it will take forever to be delivered.

Yep, if you want a plain plotter that just does what it's told, then you can squeeze it all in, but I like the polargraphy parts (the bitmap pixel styles, things like that) too much to give them up 🙂 The main culprit is the FAT library that's used to read and write the card - it's really big. And I probably don't use half of it, so it could be stripped right back.

But like airzone says the mega clones aren't that much nowadays, and with the SD card reader you've got a standalone system (http://www.polargraph.co.uk/2012/02/state-of-the-art-tangle/).

That's a great idea! Considering the consequences of a tube/connector failure, I don't think my wife would let me try that in the house, though.

I've considered customizing a pen to have a larger reservoir, but so far I've been pleasantly impressed with the mileage I can get from a fresh Pigma Micron or Sharpie, so I haven't bothered. The appeal of using a quality India ink is strong, however.

What kind of pen is this connected to? A technical (drafting) pen?

Can't be a tech pen based on how it works (unless it's not tech pen ink).

It would go everywhere otherwise, and trust me that stuff makes a mess...

jejeje yes the problems are the mess, but the pressure are the key, and i thinking how make a pen complete from the start, any way, the pen works but the problem it's more about dry ink than other thing, and yes it's a technical drafting pen but you need make some modifications like seal all the pen and only allow pass the ink where you need to pass, the ink are one for printers
