Hi,

I'm looking at buying the PolargraphSD Vitamin Kit, and I noticed that the power supply was suggested to be 7v+ and 1A+, I don't have a 7v or 8v power supply, and I'm wondering if a 9v 1.66A plugpack would work.

Him Clym, technically the motor drivers require more than 6v or 6.5v, so anything higher than that will work fine. You'd just turn the the motor current down using the screw adjusters on the drivers themselves.

The main issue with running at higher voltage is (in my experience) that you end up working the voltage regulators on the arduino hard, and they get hot. I've yet to see that ever actually cause a problem in reality, but it's something I've always tried to keep low as possible.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll just build a 7v supply. I can't seem to find a premade one anywhere convenient in NZ.

I might buy the stepper motors and sprockets from the polargraph store though. Not sure that I even have $280 nzd to spend. As much as I'd like to..

Anyway, thanks for the speedy reply!

Yes 7.5v is a weird voltage - I only use it because it's the nearest to 7v (which is ideal).
