Post Wireless printing over Bluetooth

Hi,

Just got this in the mail:

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/jy-mcu-arduino-bluetooth-wireless-serial-port-module-104299

After changing the config it seems to be able to pair with the correct baudrate thru my mac and create a serialport.

I connected it to the Arduino: https://img.skitch.com/20120218-79sgxhuuyigcpsugbsrfuaf6e.jpg (Never mind the strange wiring, I use a Arduino-clone with no voltage-regulator and still need USB for proper 5v.)

And the controller just worked: https://img.skitch.com/20120218-6ybabe3g754ut2pb2hg8b9fg9.jpg

Note that I haven't done any real printing so I have no idea how stable this is. This was just a proof of concept to see if I could get it working.

Sandy, there seems to be some strange bugs with changing the serial-port to often. The app crashes on me and I need to start with a fresh config-file each time.

Ho ho! This is great! Thanks for sharing it (sneaking off to buy things...).

Oh, I do have problems every now and then when chopping and changing serial ports. I've noticed it most when I've been changing the sd cards without resetting the machine - it seems to do something unpleasant that requires a fairly brute force response - unplugging the serial connection (usb in my case), resetting the arduino and then reconnecting / restarting the controller. What do you mean by fresh config? Any changes you haven't saved to the config then they're lost, but you shouldn't need to reset anything else out. Unless your serial port needs changing back to -1 or something?

Cheers Rickard, great stuff this.

Wifi would be nice - but a different kettle of fish I think, I can't really imagine how you'd set it up, connect etc. Eventually of course the controller will upload to a webserver and the machine will download commands from the internet. Also more expensive I think, and not just a drop-in replacement for a serial cable like this bluetooth thingy. Not really sure of all the pros and cons, and where stuff like RFM12s and xbees fit into the picture - perhaps a friendly grown-up can help?
