Don't worry Mariana! There are no dumb questions - only dumb software.
The feature you are looking for is "load vector".
Once you have loaded your SVG using "load vector", you can resize it, move it.
You can then specify an area to crop the SVG to, by using the "frame". Do this, by selecting an area, and then clicking "set frame to area". The frame is designated by some red crop marks at the corners.
