Hey Eric, I've had reasonably success with uni-ball "signo" brand pens in silver, white and gold. No problem with drying up, but then I was only doing fairly small pieces - no pics sorry.
I think the issue with most paint-ish type pens is getting the supply to the tip - even if there is a tilt to let gravity do the work, there's usually a valve that needs pumping every now and then to refresh the felt tip.
Der Kritzler (alex tinkerlog) suffered this initially, but I don't know if he hit on a solution. When I was drawing with big fat pens in windows I used to rely on the valve being very imperfect. That is more likely with water-based paints. Spirit-based paints will have tighter seals.
