Post gondola not travelling as long as it should.

Hello everyone

I just wanted to ask if anyone else has had this problem.

the gondola moves in the directions it should but it doesn't travel as much as it should.

An example would be that I have a drawing area of an A1 sheet. When I tried to move the gondola from the top of the page to the bottom which is around 84 cm but it only moves around 28 cm.

I think my motors are wired correctly I was using the uno based polargraph before and just replaced it all with the SD while using the same motors.

any help would be much appreciated. =]

Hello! The motors are specified slightly differently with the SD. The "steps per rev" should be the true steps per revolution of the motors (not doubled, as is used with the uno/motorshield). So for my motors that is 400 rather than 800.
And because the SD does microstepping, the "step multiplier" should be set to whatever microstepping level you're using. I use 8x microstepping in hardware, so I set step multiplier to 8.

I prefer to change the motor steps value by opening my default.polargraph.properties file in notepad and editing it there, and then restarting the program. Modifying those fundamental numbers interactively can sometimes make the machine size go a bit funky, and it's a pain to reset the size every time.

hopefully that's it - if not I'll have a further think.

I'm having this same problem... Using an Uno with Adafruit motorshield v2. My motors are 200 steps, which i have set in the setup to 200... As for the multiplier - how would I know what setting I need to use for that? Is it a spec of the motor or something else?

@realJasonSchwab - It's been a long time since I dealt with this, but IIRC, with a motorshield, you set the steps according to the motors' whole steps (200 in your case) times 2 (if you're using interleaved steps, which, _I think_, is how Sandy has it set up by default). The 'step multiplier' would be '1' because you aren't using hardware jumpers on your drivers to set microstepping. If I'm wrong, Sandy won't be able to resist jumping in and correcting me.

Lead me not into temptation! I was about to completely agree, but this is AFMSv2 so I'm going to disagree.

The AFMSv2 is configured to do 16x microstepping, so in the controller you should step multiplier to 16. The steps per rev should be 200.

Remember to upload machine spec.

See, folks? You sprinkle some Sandy bait, and he'll come out of his hidey-hole.
