Hi All

Great to be a part of the Polargraph community!
Well, with a lot of help from Sandy I finally got my Polargraph going, and have knocked out my first piccy. It's not quite as spectacular as ITVirtuoso's Corvette http://www.polargraph.co.uk/forum/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=92 but I'm pretty happy with it for a first go. My 5 year old grandson looked at it working and pronounced 'It's not a drawbot, it's a SlowBot.' 😀 How true!

However (I bet you knew there was going to be a 'however', right?) I am having some problems which I'd appreciate some help with. First off, if I hit 'Draw outline box' in the controller software the software shows the correct first move but the gondola drops about 5cm and also moves right about 2cm then the motors start whining quite loudly and the gondola stops. My only recourse at that point is to hit reset. Any thoughts?

Looks like a pretty grand start to me! Good to see you here.

Does the motor whining continue indefinitely? Open the console ("c") and let us see what's happening in there - there's sometimes some bits of debugging that are illuminating.

Also, I'm not sure what version of the firmware you're using, you could try and update. I broke lots of things when I restructured a while ago, and am still piecing it back together.

cheers!

Hi Sandy,
I re uploaded the firmware (it was your precompiled one you sent me the link to) and that seems to have done the trick, so all's good now. Thanks for your help in getting things going - I'm even going in all the right directions now 🙂

Good stuff 🙂 Yep there were a few significant problems with the last few firmwares, most of the big issues ironed out now, but still a few hanging around. So if something's going wrong, don't assume it's you - it could well be me!
