Post All set to start but a slight issue.

Hi guys,

so i started to build this a few months back, and got distracted with a move and licensing exams but now that have some time I'm back at it. i was able to upload the new motorshield v2 to the arduino and it connects with the controller. the issue I'm having is when i try to move the polar graph with the controller or send a rendering, the motors step once pause for a sec. move then pause, and over and over. I'm not sure what it could be, looking for any help i can get!

Thanks in advance.

Hello! Movement is good - wrong kind: Not so good.

When you say step once and pause for a sec, do you mean they literally take one motor step (a 3200th of a turn), then wait for a second? When doing just one command, (for instance a single "move to point"), how long are the moves, how long are the pauses?

Hi Sandy, it will turn (about 1/16th of a rev.) then stop about 1 sec. this is the same when sending full renderings or just move to point. and the result is the same on multiple paper sizes and machine sizes.

Puzzle. How are you loading firmware, and which version? (I mean, where did you download it from?)

Last thing. In the controller, open the console with ctrl-c and see if there's anything odd coming through from your machine. (Console shows you the raw communications between the machine and the controller.)

the firmware on the arduino is .01 and the hex file that uploaded is the hex that you had linked on the site for the new motorshield.

when i hit control-c or the equivalent in OSx there is nothing showing up.

it is very odd

so i have tried to re upload the hex, as well as double checked power source and also running other commmands and it seems to be an issue with the polargraph setup. im not sure what else to try to fix the issue.

Sorry I lost track of your message. V.01 isn't a polargraph version, if it's reporting that there there is something very peculiar going on - the hex has been corrupted somehow. Do the regular adafruit example sketches all work ok?

And other polargraph commands work ok? I don't really have much insight into how the motorshield v2 works to be honest, so I can't suggest much stuff to try with it.

If your console is not even opening, then your controller software is goosed as well.
