Yes you're right, NaNing is a bug in the firmware, it should always default to 0.8mm pen width - and it actually does, as long as you don't look at it. Which is a bit stupid, I know. I meant to fix that ages ago but forgot...
The solution that I use is to always have a "set pen width" command at the beginning of my exported queue. In fact, that's why the penwidth command is pre-loaded into the queue when you start the controller app (C02,0.8,END), because it it never saved in the machine's own memory.
