when I have even a simple SVG on the SD card (outline of a 4" circle) and I try to print from SD... nothing happens. I an navigate to the file and select it... just no action.

Is there a general estimate of how long before something should happen?

It has been my experience when you upload an SVG and nothing happens there may be something wrong with the file (image). I would suggest starting the java console ( press "c" on the active window) then load your SVG file . The console may display some info that may help answer your problem . A simple circle should load very quickly . I have had some larger files take as long as 10 minutes. Remember just because you save your file as an SVG the doesn't mean it is formatted correctly. There are some good tutorials for Inkscape that can show you how to properly set up these files. Just google "Inscape- SVG tutorial"
