Post Problem with the software update!

Hi Sandy!

I had my machine running nice and smooth yesterday, but decided to upgrade the polargraph software this morning. I downloaded the Mac Os x 1.1.7 software and installed it. Now I got the "polargraph ok" in green, but the motors won't work. And I'm not getting the "pink pen dot". Do I have to install something in Processing? I tried to click the different files in the Source folder in processing and also tried to make folders and subfolders with the names of the .PDE files....But it's not working. I'm sorry for this, but I really don't understand processing. I'm like bull in a china shop. I'm just clicking everything. It's actually a miracle that I got it working in the first place! That's why I'm not in the intellectual position where I can just go back and think "Hey! I did that, so that's why I now do this...And that's why it will work"

Thanks!

Christian

Aha! The communications protocol was changed during april ( this post has the details) and your machine has the old firmware still loaded onto it. I had hoped the current controller would work with both kinds of firmware, but I guess this proves that it doesn't.

If you want to use controller v1.1.6 or later, then you need to update the firmware. That's not always so easy, but this page from the instructable has a quick guide to doing it.

Re the controller, if you've got it running then that's all you need to do. If you're compiling from source, then you need a couple of extra libraries installed.
