When rendering pixels there is an option "Sawtooth" but when it's selected it does not generate any commands?

Is this a featureless feature, or does this only work on the CNC version of the polargraph? 🙂

Hello Peter, thanks for your _very_ good question. I had to go and check whether this ever got implemented. So the controller does build commands (C15), I guess you mean that the commands themselves don't do anything on the machine itself.

So, despite being literally the very first pixel style the polargraph ever did, sawtooth pixel has never really worked. It exists at the moment in the PolargraphSD source code, but it doesn't really do proper diagonal lines - it's pretty disappointing. Hey I should fix it though.

Sending C15 commands to any firmwares other than polargraph_server_polarshield will not result in anything though.

edit: Sandy beat me.

The first rule of Polargraph is never say "Sawtooth".

Just kidding. It doesn't work anymore. Hasn't worked in years. (Never worked? -- One of the Polargraph website banner images is a sawtooth drawing, so there is evidence that it isn't complete foo).

Ha ha yes there is a picture of it indeed, but the wider shot of that reveals that the pixel spacing was all funky. I did it when I was young and naive, and it was even before I used accelstepper for the motor control - so I couldn't even move the motors simultaneously. It was the struggle to get something sensible out of it that led to the one-motor-at-a-time pattern of the square wave, and I just liked that pattern so much that I never really moved on from it.

I have no good excuse for why I never took the option out of the controller, except that I thought it might encourage me to actually fix it 🙂 (The fact that it still doesn't work properly will give you some idea of how much I listen to my own encouragement.)
