It took a while to get everything working, especially figuring out the quirks in the controller. But now everything is running fine, and I've started to draw some artwork I've been working on, and testing out different pens. So much fun!

I could use some advice on ways to get the lines to look a little smoother, it seems that the nib sort of gets stuck to the paper due to friction. I suppose it is a combination of many things, like the speed of the motors, The roughness of The paper etc, but where to start?

These first two tests where generated with stipplegen.

I was also wondering how to convert The stipples (circles) made with stipplegen into actual dots, that is simply a pen drop / lift command.

In The picture you can see how The pen is sort of stuck. Instead of being drawn in a circle it sort of makes a v.

Sometimes it's to do with your pen lift mechanism - if it's a servo motor arm swinging in from the side, it can add a little "tick" to the end of each line, or to the beginning.

What is more common is that the pen protrudes too far out of the gondola - so the pen tip tends to be dragged around slightly behind the movement of the cords and the gondola itself, and bits get missed out, or distorted that way.

Add a bit of weight to the gondola so it hangs more taut, move your pen so the tip barely sticks out of the gondola, and slow things down if that means that the tip comes off the page during long/quick movements.

Pretty Happy with this drawing! Traced the original in illustrator then ran a filter to make the paths swirl, then simplified and joined the paths in Inkscape. Took forever to draw. Used a ballpoint pen this time, so less blotting.

I obviously didn't manage to join all the paths. I disconnected the servo, so the few lines that sort goes crossways are the travel paths. Any tips on getting ALL the paths joined into one continous path?
