I have been playing around with painting using a mounted airbrush. The pen-lift servo is used to press the trigger to paint/not paint.

Amazing! :O

Now when my wife asks me why I still have my airbrush and compressor, I have a good answer.

What does your whole set up look like? I have so many questions.....post more pictures, please.

The holder was designed to work with the bearings and bead cord attachments from the polargraph kit.
The motors need to be moved away from the wall a bit to raise the airbrush away from the paper. Other than that it's pretty much a standard machine. But I will admit lately I have been using the marginally clever firmware with adafruit shield to get continuous motion (with look-ahead) which helps with getting even line weight when painting. Now I just need a big wall to string it up on!

Man this looks great! Top gondola design and nice results. I think you could probably simplify the gondola even further, the bearings aren't really necessary if there is no friction against the surface.

And I guess until you have a way of linking flow to speed, acceleration is something that is actually undesirable here. I am quite envious of Dan's firmware, it's nice and concise, well written stuff. I wonder if anybody is interested in a fork of it to run with the polarshield pinouts? Or are you happy just using a different board and avoiding reflashing?

Man, I should've asked for video. Thanks for posting the photo, though.

Someone should write a new pixel mode for this which makes the gondola move into the pixel's coordinates and spray for a time defined by its value. It could be useful for bleedy pen/paper combinations, too.

If only we knew someone who could do that. Hmmm....
