Post Pen change during drawing

Dear all,
not sure if someone already asked this question. I could not find it at least. maybe two questions to you around the pen itself:

1. How do you mount the pen in the brass pipe? (I use a wooden chock)
2. If the pen gets empty during painting, how do you
a) pause the machine to change the pen and
b) ensure that you are aligning the new pen at the same position?

Thanks for your input
Mike

Hay Mike, for the pen mount I use http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:31973 to hold the pen, but I used to use a blob of blu-tack, which was elastic enough that a replacement pen could be wiggled until it pointed at the right bit. In practice, a fresh pen tip is very different to a used pen tip so the transition will not be seamless anyway.

If the pen gets empty, I just throw it away and start again. Always use a fresh pen! If you need to pause it, with a polargraphsd, just press the pause button. If you're drawing tethered, just pause the command queue.

cheers!

Hey Mike,

I havent done much with changing pens halfway, if I thnk the pen will run out on something big I'll just use a new pen at the begining (and use older pens for smaller things) 😛

As for mounting pens in the brass tube, I have come up with using tape to make my pens the same size as the tube. This way the pen is alway centered and with a snug fit it wont move around 😀
The tape I use is called 'Leukoplast Elastic'comes on a orange spool (found at a chemist/drug store)

It works best with pens that have a short lid..
