These are fantastic Grant - this is almost exactly the kind of work I imagined when I was initially working on the controller - I am fiercely jealous of anyone who can make this kind of diaphanous, digital, woven texture and figure, and I always assumed I'd need a programmed / generative approach. I am simultaneously crestfallen and inspired to see what you have done just using illustrator.
Ballpoint pens are great, I love the texture of them (maybe especially for this kind of work). Is the slowness of the machine an artefact of how the firmware works, a requirement of the medium (to get good lines), or just a problem that has never needed a solution? I know Harvey's was slow, but I guessed it was because there was a significant generative element to the process, so it couldn't ever be planned out ahead of time and optimised.
