Post Mac OS X no serial connection

Hi,

I finally got a free weekend, set up my Polargraph SD, all connections are correct, software is installed... can't get the Polargraphto show up as connected

About to connect to serial port in slot 2
Get serial port no: 2
Successfully connected to port /dev/tty.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync

even says it uploads config file... never shows up green and connected

I've tried in OS X 10.7 and 10.8. I can drag a windows machine home tomorrow and try.

Any thoughts?

Hi Bob! Have you tried any other serial ports? Arduino usually shows up on mac as tty-usbserial something or other. (http://arduino.cc/en/Guide/MacOSX#toc8).

Hi Sandy,

The new port never shows. If I watch the log, I see this:
WARNING: RXTX Version mismatch
Jar version = RXTX-2.2pre1
native lib Version = RXTX-2.2pre2
Serial ports available on your machine:
[0] "/dev/tty.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync"
[1] "/dev/cu.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync"
[2] "/dev/tty.Bluetooth-Modem"
[3] "/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem"

Hm, the drivers sometimes seem to appear automatically, but sometimes need a bit of a helping hand. Have a look at http://arduino.cc/en/Guide/MacOSX#toc3 - the arduino boards in PolargraphSDs _do_ use an FTDI chip, so try the FTDI drivers that are linked to from that page and see if that coaxes it into life!

the FTDI driver solved the port issue, but consistently crashed the polargraph controller, Polargraph Controller 1.1.6 works in OS X 10.8.2 with the FTDI driver.

First post for this newbie. I seem to be having a similar problem. Just unpacked and connected everything and went through the controller software steps explained on the site. I do not have a virtual COM option in the communication ports using Mac OSX.

What am I missing? Thank you for any help!!

Hi Andi, did you follow the setup guide from the arduino site? That is - http://arduino.cc/en/Guide/MacOSX ? In your case, you have an arduino with an FTDI driver chip, so you will probably need to download and install the extra FTDI drivers that that page refers and links to. I've added the link above to the setup guide.

Everything seems to check out in the small bit of time I had this morning. Thanks a bunch for your help, Sandy!
