Give it some thought, is this really the way forward? Leave cooking to the cook. Not to the chemical industry. It is already bad enough that we use food (corn starch) to make PLA. Sure, PLA is more eco-friendly then ABS, though keep in mind that there are still people starving on this planet. So the way forward is to first use recycled materials where it is possible. Non food materials like recycled ABS, ceramics (clay/sand), silicone (glass) and metals all can be used to print or to be used in casting and molding processes. So with all that in mind, again the question, is printed food a smart thing to do? The danger is that the corporate need to make profit becomes more important then the human need to be healthy. This will result in something similair as the bio-diesel madness. The biodiesel made from soybean plants sounds all smart, though how many acres of forest had to be destroyed to make space for soybean farming? And (over farming) soybean plants on their turn have a devastating effect on the soil. Then the even more crazy side effect that after squeesing the oil out of the soyplants the soy residue is being processed into food like veggieburgers. Yes you read it right, the WASTE of biodiesel is given to us as 'food' AFTER the real energy is TAKEN OUT of the food. So it it really a good idea to do all this fake eco and bio stuff? Yes 3D prining is the future, but we still have a long way to go. We all need to consider the long term side effects and change things right now. Now is the time to do it right. This is something that the petrol industry never even thought of, the greed for money was more important then humanity. And look how much poverty and pollution is the result in todays world. Many people are into 3D printing because they see how it can benefit humanity. If you really want it to benefit then consider all the factors that are involved. And food is the biggest factor. We have 7 billion people on this planet who all need to eat. So lets not print the food, but only recycle the waste and print with that. Be the change, be it now. Don't make 3D printing the new petrol scam. |
